30 July 2007 - masoniCare awards Bathurst youth for work in the community

30.07.2007 – Sixteen year old Timothy Bussink has received a $2,000 young achiever award from masoniCare, Freemasonry’s grant making arm in NSW and ACT.

The Bathurst teenager was selected to receive this award in recognition of his active involvement in local community projects. Timothy served as a Youth Councillor in 2006 and was then elected Youth Mayor of Bathurst in 2007. Through these roles he worked on a variety of projects which addressed issues that affect young people in Bathurst.

Timothy has also played a leadership role in charitable activities such as the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life of which he was a captain in 2006 and 2007.

“The Relay for Life is an excellent initiative as participants enjoy themselves whilst raising money for a good cause,” He said.

Ron Frame, Regional Masonic Manager for the Central West, congratulated Timothy on receiving the award, saying, “Timothy is a fine example of what young people can do if they channel their energies constructively. He is a very deserving recipient of this award”.

Ron added, “The Young Achiever program is designed to encourage our younger generation to be involved in community oriented activities. Not only does their involvement benefit others but they also come to realise that helping people is a reward in itself”.

Timothy thanked the Freemasons for nominating him for this award, saying, “I am very grateful to receive this award from masoniCare. It’s definitely rewarding to realise that your efforts are valued in the community”.

“Young people should realise that they have the chance to make a difference and the opportunity is there to be taken,” Timothy said.

masoniCare’s Young Achiever program selects 13 young people across NSW and ACT to receive awards in recognition of community service.
