  Masonicare   December 2013
  Chairman's Message

This year has seen a number of natural disasters in NSW to which Freemasonry through Masonicare, has acted positively by assisting those in need.

The actions of Freemasons in relation to these disasters have not only given us a positive public persona but has helped to focus on the fact that charity is one of the foremost tenets of Freemasonry.

On behalf of the Masonicare Board I would like to thank all Lodges and Masons for their extremely positive response to our Appeal and their support in our fundraising activities.

May I wish all Masons and their families a happy and holy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous 2014.

  Masonicare Bushfire Appeal

Thank you to everyone who kindly donated to the recent Bushfire Appeal launched as a result of the devastating bushfires in the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Southern Highlands, Central Coast and Port Stephens areas. We have had an overwhelming response to this appeal, demonstrating the positive and significant impact Freemasons can have when we come together to support a worthwhile cause.

Masonicare will oversee the funding of a number of high tech thermal imaging cameras for the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) in each of these areas. This need has been identified following much research and discussion with relevant authorities in the affected areas.

These cameras can be life-saving when used by fire-fighting crews identifying whether any persons may be trapped within a structure that is on fire. The "square and compasses" will be proudly positioned on each camera to demonstrate how we, as proud Freemasons are actively supporting our local communities. Further donations are still be welcomed and your generosity, especially in the lead-up to the Christmas period, is greatly appreciated.

  InterAction Grants

Lodge Nowra Unity organized a number of different fundraisers recently to help the Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra which will use the money to organise a concert for the community.

Masonicare presented a cheque for $1500, matching what had been raised, to the Orchestra on Tuesday evening the 19th November 2013.

The Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra is based in Nowra which is the commercial and administrative centre of the Shoalhaven, a picturesque coastal region in New South Wales located 160 kilometres south of Sydney.

The Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra was established in 2000 as an orchestra of string and woodwind players from many different parts of the Shoalhaven.

Masonicare Disaster Relief Car Raffle - Winner

The Masonicare Disaster Relief Car Raffle was drawn at the Sydney Masonic Centre October 15th and the lucky winner was presented with the keys to his new Ford Fiesta LX at a presentation ceremony on Monday November 4th at Thomson Ford, Parramatta. Although tickets were sold throughout the jurisdiction to both masons and members of the community, one of our very own brethren from the Coffs Harbour region bought the lucky ticket.  All profits made from the Raffle go into the Disaster Relief Fund.

Masonicare’s Chairman, RW Bro Andrew Fraser MP, said he is most grateful for the efforts of the organising Committee and each and every brother who contributed to the running of the raffle as well as the sale of tickets.

  Masonicare Charity Jewels

If you would like to recognise someone in your Lodge for their contribution to the charitable aspects of Freemasonry, then one of these high quality jewels would provide the ideal way in which to show how the Lodge values their constant dedication.

Jewels can only be purchased by the Lodge and are not tax deductible in compliance with ATO ‘charity’ regulations. Funds raised from the sale of jewels will go to The Benevolence Fund.
